Gustie Math Major Put to the Test

Congratulations to mathematics major Timothy Paczynski for scoring in the 48th percentile in the 2016 Putnam Exam.  According to the Mathematical Association of America’s website “The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is the preeminent mathematics competition for undergraduate college students in the United States and Canada.”  Some of this year’s top scores came from Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, Princeton […]

2017 Pi Day Celebration

On Tuesday March 14 the MCS department hosted its annual pi day celebration.  The event was, as usual, well attended.  Pie and good conversation were had by all.

Congratulations to MCS Assistant Professor Laura Boehm Vock.  Evan Michael Vock was born at 7:04 pm, Monday February 27.  He was 20 inches long and weighed 6 lbs 12 oz. Baby and Mom are home and doing well.

MCS Alumni Profile: Andrew Pearson

How did the MCS department help you get where you are today? It taught me how to read, manipulate, and understand data sets. Using logic to mold data into a useful form can simplify data integration and analytics. Also I used examples from projects and papers from both Modeling and Applied Statistics classes to help job interviewers and colleagues understand the types of work that keep me interested.
