Join us on Monday at 3:30 pm in Olin 321 for the MCS department seminar given by current GAC student, Rebecca Steffen. The title of Rebecca’s talk is “The Mathematical Art of Lewis Carroll” and an abstract is given below. As always, snacks will be served. We look forward to seeing you there!
Abstract: While studying abroad at the University of Reading, England, I examined the life, mathematics, and writings of Charles Dodgson, more famously known by his pen name, Lewis Carrol, the author of the Alice in Wonderland stories. I had the opportunity to visit his college where he both graduated and lectured, Christ Church College, and explore the town that inspired his most famous stories. I will discuss some of the interdisciplinary works, puzzles, and research of Dodgson, highlighting his contributions to the fields of mathematics, arts, and the mind.
