Instructor and Technology Coordinator Position

Gustavus Adolphus College invites nominations and applications for a renewable, non-tenure-track position of Instructor of Statistics (or Math) and Departmental Technology Coordinator for the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science to begin in the summer of 2007.

We seek candidates who have at least a master’s degree in statistics, mathematics, or closely related field, as well as teaching experience in statistics or mathematics. (Statistics is preferred.) The successful candidate should have prior experience using computer systems from a shell (or command prompt) and some programming or scripting experience, as well as at least the willingness to learn system administration skills. Experience in system administration is preferred. Pluses include familiarity with statistical and mathematical software (including Maple) and with TI graphing calculators (including the TI Navigator system).

This position combining two roles: (1) Teaching four sections per year of lower-division statistics or mathematics. (Statistics is preferred.) (2) Coordinating the department’s use of instructional technology including computers (predominantly running Linux, with some Windows and Mac OS X) and graphing calculators.

The technology coordinator not only provides direct technical support to the members of the department but also coordinates with the staff of the Gustavus Technology Services department. As such, a demonstrated track-record of cooperative work will be highly valued.

The contract will be for ten months per year: the nine months of the September-May academic year plus one month to be flexibly scheduled over the summer for technology upgrades and installations.
