Welcome Back Posted on September 4th, 2017 by

Those of you on campus this fall may notice some new faces in the MCS department.  We would like to officially welcome Dr. Imre Tuba and Dr. Jeffrey Boatman to the third floor of Olin Hall.

Dr. Tuba received his PhD in mathematics  from the University of California at San Diego.  His interests are algebra, bioinformatics, and math education research.

Dr. Jeffrey Boatman received his Phd in Biostatistics from the University of Minnesota.  His research interests are causal inference, clinical trials, and statistical computing.

Returning to Gustavus this semester is Dr. Michael Hvidsten.  Dr. Hvidsten was on sabbatical last year.  While on sabbatical he spent considerable time updating Geometry Explore, the software package that accompanies  the book that he wrote.  Look to download Geometry Explore for iOS and Android soon.

Dr. Hvidsten, Dr. Boatman and Dr. Tuba are filling positions vacated by Dr. Emily Gunawan,Dr. Haoran Chen and Dr. Marian Frazier.  Dr. Gunawan took a post doctoral position at the University of Connecticut, ,Storrs.  Dr. Chen moved back to China to take a position at a XJTL University, and Dr. Frazier took a position at the College of  Wooster in Ohio so that she could be closer to family.  While we will mist Emily, Haoran, and Marian, we know that Mike, Imre and Jeffrey will do a great job.
