The Man Who Knew Infinity Premieres at TIFF Posted on September 18th, 2015 by

The Man Who Knew Infinity, a biopic about the life of mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan and his friendship with G. H. Hardy, opened yesterday at the Toronto International Film Festival.  The film stars Dev Patel as Ramanujan and Jeremy Irons as Hardy.  The films early reviews are very positive and has already generated some Oscar buzz.

Last April, the MCS Department was fortunate to host Professor Ken Ono of Emory University, who served as the mathematics consultant for the film and was named an Associate Producer.  While at Gustavus, Ken gave two talks and shared with use several “sneak peaks” of the movie.   While on campus, Ken posed with the department’s Granlund bust of Ramanujan and told all of us that this bust (and several other castings) was funded by the generosity of mathematicians around the globe (including Ken’s father).

Ken is an active Facebook user and if you want a small glimpse of what it must be like for a mathematician to walk the red carpet at a movie premiere you should check out his Facebook page.
