Gustavus CS Major Wins Composition Contest Posted on March 4th, 2005 by

True geekiness shines through! Even though the judges at Caltech had no idea the original wind-orchestra composition they were judging was from a computer science major, they were mysteriously drawn to it, over all the other compositions they had received from around the world. Well, maybe it isn’t such a mystery, because Gustavus senior Paul Fraser is a mighty fine composer as well as a computer science geek in good standing. But the connection between one of our CS majors and a world-class technical university is worth noting. For his composition, Chimera, Fraser will be receiving a cash prize as well as a trip out to Caltech for the premier performance, which will be recorded. Way to go! Those who want to hear Paul’s sound without going all the way out to Pasadena can also hear him performing with his band, Organ Donors The Gustavus News Office put out a real nice story about Paul’s coup as well, though they inexplicably refer to him as a music and computer science major, when we all know he is actually a computer science and music major.
