Tell us about yourself.
I graduated from Gustavus in 2011 with degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science. I am currently getting my M.S. in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) from the University of New Mexico. I plan to finish early next Spring 2017.
How did the MCS department help you get where you are today?
Being in the MCS department gave me the opportunity to study abroad in Budapest, Hungary with the Budapest Semester in Mathematics program. This sparked my love for international travel, which led me to travel to India on a 10-week sustainability internship in 2014. Because of my experiences there, I was chosen for a research trip to Nepal in December of 2014. When the devastating earthquakes hit Nepal in the Spring of 2015, I spearheaded the formation of a new group at UNM called UNM4Nepal. Within 1 year, we raised nearly $20,000 and traveled to Nepal in May/June 2016 where we built a community center in Bahunipati, Nepal.
What is your favorite memory or memories of the MCS department?
I really enjoyed being a Calculus tutor as part of my work study.
Thanks for the update Jennifer. Good luck with your studies at the University of New Mexico.
